What exactly does A self cleaning pyrolytic oven do?
One of the most annoying things I found while selling ovens for over 7 years is the different brands wouldn’t clarify how much cleaning was still needed for “self cleaning ovens” dependable on brands. To help with figuring this out I’ve listed their varying levels of self cleaning action below
1 - Clean Glass spotless, Remove hardware and Still needs grime removed or will discolour enamel
2 - Clean Glass spotless, Remove hardware and grime not an issue
3 - Clean Glass spotless, Remove anything chrome
4 - Clean Glass Spotless and All metals are Stainless steel, these will still turn a goldy colour but can stay in the oven
Now.. The more interesting parts is which categories do the brands fall into for the most part
1 - F & P, Westinghouse, Electrolux (a guide is normally black enamel ovens) have a lower quality enamel and will discolour if any Grime is left on the Enamel and all their hardware is Chrome which will be ruined as well.
2/3-Most European made ovens fall into this category as a starting point e.g Smeg, Asko and certain models from Bosch, Siemens, Neff, Miele. The reason why some hardware is suitable is due to how the telescopic rails are made. Most of these brands will give you a dummy set it hold your ovens trays which can be burnt off aswell which great! But still having to remove and clean your telescopic rails is not what most people thought they were buying
4-Higher end German made ovens will all usually spec the pyrolytic proof telescopic rails and say it in the spec sheet
